Tip #6: Hiring a Stripper

Last time I said that this time I’d cover both how to hire a stripper and what to do once he arrives, but I’ve decided to split it up into two parts, making this a sort of series on strippers. I’m sure that sounds more exciting than it really is.

First things first, reasons why you may not want to hire a stripper:

-If you know the bachelorette won’t like it

-If you know that a guest will make having a stripper awkward. For example, if the bride’s mother or future sister-in-law is there, or if several guests are opposed to a stripper for other reasons.

-You have an especially large group. Strippers work best at smaller bachelorette parties of around a dozen women or less. You can hire one with a larger group, too, but I’ve found that the experience just isn’t the same, because the stripper becomes less of the focus with that many girls around.

-You can’t afford it. This one should be fairly obvious, but one of my girlfriends once hired a stripper for a party without asking what the cost was ahead of time. When they told her, she didn’t want to back out, so she paid them even though it way overexceeded her party’s budget.

To solve that last problem, I highly recommend that you split the cost between all the guests (but don’t make the bachelorette pay). Hiring a private stripper, even for just an hour, can get pretty expensive. But if you’re splitting it between ten or twelve girls, it’s not so bad.

Now, if there’s nothing stopping you from hiring a stripper, how do you go about doing it? Well, the hardest part is finding one. Your first thought might be to look one up on the internet. I’d advise against that. The internet is full of spam sites, and even if you do find a legitimate business’s website, chances are they’re not in your area. Your best bet is to go old-fashioned and look through the yellow pages. Strippers could be listed under many things, such as “Entertainment – Adult” or “Escort Service”, so don’t be discouraged just because there’s no “Strippers” section. If you live in or near a major city, chances are you’ll be able to find a stripper in the area. If you live in a small city or rural area, though, it may be more difficult. Ask around and see if anyone you know has hired a male stripper for a party and ask them where they found him.

Once you’ve found an agency that will suit your needs, there are some questions you should ask them over the phone. You’ll want to find out if there’s a website where you can see pictures of the man you’ll be hiring. Whether they have a website or not, you probably want to get a picture of the stripper somehow, as I mentioned in my last post, so you know you’ll be happy with the purchase. You also want to find out up front the hourly rate and when you’ll be billed, so you don’t make the same mistake my girlfriend did. It’s also good to find out what the stripper will do, whether or not they can wear a special outfit or costume, and what (if anything) you might need to provide, like music.

Last but not least, try to get a written agreement faxed or mailed to you so there will be no confusion if the stripper doesn’t show up or if something else went wrong. I think that’s all I have to say about hiring the stripper, next time I’ll talk a little about proper conduct once he arrives.

See you next time,

Carly

  1. Hi, I'm Ashlee. I stumbled on your blog and I'm glad I did, it's really informative. I think I might get a stripper for my sister's bachelorette party... but I don't know! I just wanted to say thanks for your advice if I do though!
